Shoma Morita

$22.50

Book, 148 pages. Published in 1998.

This is one of the only opportunities for students of Japanese therapies to read a direct translation of psychiatrist Shoma Morita's own work in the English language. The book presents the progressive treatment of Morita therapy as practiced in Japan. Though this classical therapy was initially designed to treat anxiety-based disorders, it is presently being used to treat a broader range of problems including depression, personality disorders, eating disorders and post-traumatic stress syndrome. Throughout the book, Morita reflects on his contemporaries such as Freud, William James, Montessori and Charcot.

Some of Morita's insights into the changeable nature of feelings and attention were ahead of his time. These insights fit well with some modern theories of how the dynamic brain works. – Henry Kahn, M.D.
